Report on the Consumer Survey on Impact Investing in Japan 2024 is now available

GSG Impact JAPAN National Partner is pleased to announce the results of “Report on the Consumer Survey on Impact Investing in Japan 2024” produced and authored by Social Innovation and Investment Foundation (SIIF) and overseen by GSG Impact JAPAN. This is the sixth annual survey of impact investing attitudes among general consumers in Japan conducted by SIIF, the secretariat of GSG Impact JAPAN. This year, for the first time in two years, a quantitative survey was conducted, and a new question on "ethical consumption awareness" was added to provide a multifaceted analysis of consumer awareness of and interest in impact investing to solve social issues.

Main findings
  1. 1.51.2% of respondents were identified as experienced investors.
  2. For the first time since 2019, when this survey began, the number of respondents with investment experience exceeded the majority.
  3. (Trends: 51.2% in 2024 ← 46.0% in 2022 ← 47.6% in 2021 ← 45.2% in 2020 ← 44.8% in 2019)

  4. 2.Awareness of impact investing reached an all-time high of 7.7%.
  5. Awareness was high among those in their 20s and 30s with investment experience, at approximately 30%. Similar trend to past survey results
  6. Trend: 7.7% in 2024 ← 7.1% in 2022 ← 6.6% in 2021 ← 6.1% in 2020 ← 6.8% in 2019

  7. 3.The level of interest in implementing the program was recorded at 16.4%.
  8. While recording the lowest value, the interest level of those in their 20s and 30s with investment experience is approximately 30%, a trend similar to past survey results
  9. Trends: 16.4% in 2024 ← 17.7% in 2022 ← 17.2% in 2021 ← 19.1% in 2020 ← 20.7% in 2019

  10. 4. themes of social issues of interest to respondents who are interested in impact investing:
  11. Renewable energy, companies that apply advanced technologies to address social issues, environmental conservation,
  12. Sustainable agriculture, High-quality medical and nursing care services

  13. 5. The group with more investment experience is significantly more likely to engage in environmentally and ethically conscious consumption behavior.
  14. Those with high ethical consumption awareness also show high interest in impact investing.
